Final event of the Tartan Tour ‘Carnoustie Tour Championship 2021’ took place 27-28 October at Carnoustie Golf Links ‘home to golf’s greatest test’.
Have been looking forward to this year’s event since this season’s schedule was announced, and it didn’t disappoint with the course in fantastic condition thanks to head greenkeeper Craig Boath and his team. Little known trivia fact: it was Carnoustie natives who established the Professional Golfer’s associations of America and Australia!
After an up and down season, it’s a little ironic that the Tour Championship, sponsored by Angus Soft Fruits, provided by far and away my best finish with a tied first place. First round one over par (73) found me in a tie for 17th place. A very pleasing second round of six under (66) seen me leading in the clubhouse at five under (tied first) and an anxious wait to see if anyone would post anything lower.
As it turned out only Rhys Thompson could match my five under total and a play-off ensued.
After four holes and eight pars darkness put paid to any further golf and the Championship was shared. Joint winner sounds good, congratulations to Rhys let’s do it all again next season!
Big thank-you to all Tartan Tour sponsors and organisers: Farmfoods, Paul Lawrie Golf Centre, St Andrews Brewing Company, Cloudcube, Pulse Roll, Blue Group, Enoksen, Druids and Wilson Staff
